We were all going direct to Heaven, and we were all going direct the other way. In short, the period was so far like the present period. That some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of parison only. ”
With the beginning of above words, Dickens told us a love story called “A Tale of Two Cities”, which is one of his most important representative works. The novel profoundly exposed the society contradiction before the French Revolution, intensely attacks the aristocratic social class is dissolute and cruel, and sincerely sympathizes with the depressed classes. The novel also described many magnificent scenes like the revolt people attacked Bastille and so on, which displayed peoples great strength.
The novel has portrayed many different people. Doctor Manette is honest and kind but suffers the persecution actually , Lucie is beautiful and gentle ,Charles is graceful and noble,Lorry is upright and honest ,Sydney is semblance of indifferent, innermost feelings of warm, unconventional but also selfless and lofty,Miss Pross is straightforward and loyal,Evremonde brothers are cruel and sinister. The plex hatred is hard to solve, the cruel revenge has made more hatreds, loves rebirth in the hell edge, but take the life as the price.
Among many different kinds of people in the story, it is Sydney Carton who impressed me most.
I can’t describe my feeling at the first sight of him. To tell the truth, he was not eye-catching at that time. When the readers were immersed in the meeting between Lucie and Charles, he only played a little role as a lawyer who had the same face with Charles and extricated him from accusation through this point.
Then they went to drink. Without scruple, Carton expressed his dislike to Charles. Yes, they had the same face. But they were different. Carton was a little lawyer, while Charles was a successful man. Carton was quite free and easy, while Charles was graceful and noble. In fact, they were absolutely two distinctive men except for their appearance. Certainly, what Carton cared about was not the wealth or the position, but the love of Lucie. He realized that Lucie loved Charles, so he was barely out of control at that time.
Every time I read this part, I could feel his sincerity and broad-minded. By no means would he say a lie. He must tell you what he thinks in the heart. It is Sydney Carton, a true man.
After a short time, he can’t resist himself going to see Lucie. But when he stepped into the small forest, he saw Lucie and Charles getting together happily. He didn’t rush towards them, however, he returned without a word. Though he had a period of depression after that, he was clear who Lucie loved was not him. So what he only would do was to bless her.
Some days later, he came to meet Lucie again. He still told Lucie about his love, although he knew it was useless. He just wanted her to know it, as he said,“I want you to know that you are my last dream in my life. ”

So when Carton showed his deep love to Lucie, I suddenly felt that this man was so lovely and deserved to beloved.

From then on, I came to understand how profound his love was. No doubt that it is the most moving love words in the world. Although you don’t love me, I am still there for you or your beloved though thick and thin.
But I knew in this story, Carton was bound to a tragic role. So when I saw he only left a view of his back in her wedding, there was a plex mood appearing slowly in my heart.
Some years passed. When Lucie appeared in the front of Carton, she became a mother. This time, Lucie’s face was filled with anxiety. Because Charles was in prison and would be killed soon. What lead to this was the plicated and filthy past.
From the point, the dirty of society was reflected. It was the sorrow in that period. But they must pay for this sorrow. So it was the time that Carton achieved his permission. “I told you once, for you I would do anything. I will. ” He said.
At the last moment, he and Charles exchanged. That they had the same face helped them at the second time. When Lucie and her family left without knowing the truth, Carton, instead of Charles, went to be killed.
How can we evaluate his action? We can’t say anything about it because all what he did was out of love.

The story is set in London and Paris at the time of the great French Revolution.It shows the causes of revolution and its effects on people"s day-to-day lives.Before the revolution,the King and the aristocracy treated their people cruelly in France.The common people were extremely poor and miserable.The crops in the fields were poor as if even the land shared the misery of the people.And there were so heavy taxes that all the villagers had nothing to hand over at last.On the other hand,the aristocracy made their will as the law by using money and gold.There were no justice,no equality and no fairness.Just as what happened to Dr Manette,he wrote to the Minister to show the crime what Marquis Evremonde had done,resulting in himself being arrested and sent to the prison Bastille without any reason.
Then this situation of darknewas needed to be changed.As people such as the Defarges prepared and arranged,at length the Revolution came to break out.When the Bastille was captured and the King was tried and put to death as well as many other aristocrats,things didn"t go on as what they had been expected.The sistuation stayed the same,or even worse.The prisoners from the Bastille were set free while more prisons were filled with people who had done no wrong again.People who once lived on the bottom of clatook the charge now and their heart had been full of evil.The only thing they wanted to do was to revenge.And these so-called "patriots" would like to see more and more innocent prisoners going to the guillotine and that"s their joy.As the novel wrote,"In everything they did were merciless,for they had been hardened in the fires of suffering and the touch of pity could make no mark on them".

合上这本书，我觉得银行家罗瑞和律师卡顿有太多的相似之处，他们俩其实是惺惺相惜的，只不过卡顿隐藏的更深，直到最后，罗瑞才发现卡顿是个有感情的人，可是其实自始至终，卡顿一直就看穿了罗瑞那压抑的情感，因为他自也是这样一样将感情深深隐藏起来的人，所以他很能看懂罗瑞的心思。也正因为这样，卡顿才能觉察这个一向以“办公事”自居的银行家的感伤。故事刚开始时，卡顿就漫不经心的、毫不客气的戳中了罗瑞矛盾的内心，当时罗瑞对他的表现是气愤的，而当故事快结束时，他以真挚的口吻揭露公事公办的人又有私情流露时，罗瑞感到的是意外，他看到了卡顿的另外一面，或者是卡顿本来的样子。正因为惺惺相惜，卡顿最终才把转移露西的.计划托付给了罗瑞，因为他们都是靠谱的人。

此外，还有普洛斯小姐，露西的忠诚的佣人和朋友，杰端这由坏到好的人物，给人们带来了希望。
原来我一直为止倾叹的法国人民并非我想象中那么完美，在这本书中更多地展现了他们革命时的邪恶的本性。

“那是最美好的时代，那是最糟糕的时代；那是智慧的年头，那是愚昧的年头；那是信仰的时期，那是怀疑的时期；那是光明的季节，那是黑暗的季节；那是希望的春天，那是失望的冬天；我们全都在直奔天堂，我们全都在直奔相反的方向——简而言之，那时跟现在非常相象，某些最喧嚣的权威坚持要用形容词的最高级来形容它。说它好，是最高级的；说它不好，也是最高级的。”这是狄更斯《双城记》的经典开头，也是一曲时代节奏的起始音符，更是一幅恢弘的历史画卷最初的那一笔最重的色彩。
在贵族眼里，那是最好的时代；而对于*民而言，那却是最坏的时代。彼时，贵族，可以因其出身而拥有众多特权，可以为了随心所欲的享乐方式去剥夺*民的权利；*民，不得不忍受贵族的欺凌、压迫，似乎命中注定他们应该接受上天施加的饥饿，不幸与贫穷。
小说前半部分，狄更斯用大量的笔墨控诉着那些自以为高高在上的贵族，他们的马车可以在碾死*民小孩以后，仅仅是“侯爵老爷向他们众人看了一眼，好像他们仅仅是一些从地下钻出来的老鼠。”看到这一段时，我抱着和*民一样的态度，无比憎恨那些人，期盼着有朝一日那些人能跌落云端，受到应有的惩罚。
所幸，好与坏在某种特定的环境背景下是可以发生转换的。
当贵族不断运用特权给*民施压；当尽管*民在贵族的脚下小心翼翼的前行，却依旧难逃贵族的残暴迫害；当受迫害的人越来越多，大家复仇的想法也就越演越烈。一个*民难以反抗，但他们发现身边的每个人都有着相同的困苦境遇时，便如同拥抱归属感般团结起来，为自己丧失已久的自由奋起斗争。这时，最好的时代和最坏的时代便倒转过来了——*民终于可以复仇了，而贵族，却要因此面临祸患。
复仇成功，*民们展开报复，将那些混蛋们都送上了法庭接受审判，也公布了一系列新的法律条文，这个国家，成为了“自由、*等、博爱，否则不如死的统一不可分割的共和国”。可就是在这样的国家，法庭上，审判的标准竟然是人民的情绪，可以因流泪同情无罪释放，也可以是群情激愤极刑处死。这个国家，依旧每天有许多无辜的人遭迫害惨死，依旧被压抑恐怖的气氛笼罩。
胜利者，狂热、激动、麻木、粗暴；
失败者，颓丧、惶恐、害怕、狼狈。
不过是翻转了金字塔，最后仍是少数人，实行着同样恐怖的统治和压迫。正如叶芝的诗《伟大的日子》里的几句诗：“革命万岁！更多更多的炮声！一个骑马的乞丐鞭打步行的乞丐，革命万岁！更多更多的炮声！乞丐们换了位置，但鞭打依旧。”
在《乌合之众》中有着这样的观点：“当一场目的在于过去一切制度的大革命进行过后，人们惊讶地发现，这样大革命的结果就是毁灭一套集权制，继而建立了一套新的集权制，甚至使它进一步强化，更具压迫性。”我们在这跌宕起伏的情节中能清楚地看到*民与贵族的权利置换过程，看到不断强化的压迫性。群众对于正确与否没有判知，一味地随波逐流，导致了血染法场。情节不断重演，这难道不就是一种新的压迫吗？而这压迫不是更凶残吗？纵然贵族对*民实施的暴行无法抹去，同样地，鲜血对于失去亲人的伤痛也无法忘却，可通过杀戮实现报复，难道就能获得内心的*静吗？逝者已逝，而在集体的狂热中，鲜血俨然成了祭奠死者的唯一祭品。
集体狂热的时代，又何尝不是集体哀嚎的时代？
*历史教科书中对这场轰轰烈烈的法国大革命给予高度赞扬与肯定，而狄更斯，则给予了最猛烈的嘲讽和否定。他认为，法国大革命中对人性的抹杀，对生命的摧残和漠视，只不过是一种*替代另外一种*而已，不但不值得推崇，最终也会被消灭殆尽。在他的心中，对生命的尊重，对人性光辉的景仰，才是人类社会永恒的主题和善美，亘古不变。
这场大革命里，还有着毫不起眼的小人物，西蒙尼替代查尔斯，从容赴死。他高贵的头颅落下的那一刻，爱情的光辉与人性的光辉交相呼应，刺破大革命疯狂而黑暗的幕布，如同落日余晖般绚丽夺目。或许，黑暗的时刻，最终会在这样的光辉中，慢慢消散。
信仰与怀疑、光明与黑暗、希望与绝望并存，好与坏也在不同的人、不同的群体之间转换。就像现在，我们所生活的世界没有想象的那么美好，但也没有那么糟糕，仍然值得我们为之努力奋斗。
毕竟，爱总是要比恨有力的多。

生命有两座城，一个住着死亡。一个住着永生。
虽然《双城记》是一本经典的小说，但因为其明确提出这段革命背景是法国，于是对革命的表现就被认为是作者的历史观。而这正是对小说无数争议的焦点。狄更斯在小说中除了以细腻的笔墨展示了贵族的残忍，同样也展示了革命群众非理性的破坏。他认为，革命是一种压迫取代了另一种压迫，一场直接浓重的血腥替代了另外一场血腥。对攻占巴士底狱以及对民众的一系列描写——血腥，残忍，狡诈，恶毒是小说最为引人注目的地方。
狄更斯把在描写暴民邪恶之处倾心了大量的笔墨，展示了他对暴民的痛恨，从某种层度上可以说是对革命的痛恨。当然，作为人道主义者的狄更斯也指出了拯救世界的良药：爱。
我非常喜欢卡顿。实际上，卡顿就是狄更斯的化身，狄更斯正是首先想到了卡顿这个人和他身上的某种精神进而构思成这本小说的。小说中描述：“太阳悲悲切切，切切悲悲的冉冉升起，它所照见的景物，没有比这个人更惨的了。他富有才华，情感高尚，却没有施展才华流露情感的机会，不能有所作为，也无力谋取自己的幸福。他深知自己的症结所在，却听天由命，任凭自己年复一年的虚度光阴，消耗殆尽。”
被自己遗弃的悲观者——卡顿，在朋友遇到困难，在所钟爱的女子的丈夫即将被送上断头台时，他突然出现，被救人还不之所以的情况下，以自己的生命做代价，在紧要关头使了个掉包计策救出了自己的所爱女子的丈夫。
这不正是基督之爱么，为自己赎了罪而消亡。事实上，小说中的卡顿也确实以圣经的口吻在临死前说，“复活在我，生命在我，信我的人，虽然死了，也必复活；凡活着信我的人，必永远不死。”这就是狄更斯为“最坏的时代”开出的良药，然而这毕竟是一种理想。有人说，《双城记》作为一部不朽的著作，如果没有西德尼。卡顿的存在和所作所为，这部小说就失去了它的价值和光辉。我完全赞同。

作者创作这部小说的时期，正是英国和法国历史上最黑暗的时期。“国王和王后相信什么都不会改变。”作者的这句话让人发笑，觉得太天真太荒谬，而事实的确如此。在这两个国家的首都巴黎和伦敦，人们痛恨国王和一切贵族，而巴黎情况更为严重。贵族们依其权势将他们的仇人送进活坟墓——北塔监狱。主人公露茜的父亲马内特医生，他仅仅因为知道了一个秘密。这部小说是围绕露茜和她所爱的人们在巴黎和伦敦两座城市间徘徊并断送生命。巴黎人民在暴怒之下将国王王后和贵族们打入死牢——北塔监狱。用新型机器——断头台将他们处死以解其恨。露茜的丈夫——查尔斯·埃弗蒙因为是贵族后裔而被打入死牢。可他并没有伤害过穷人，他是无辜的。律师西得尼·卡登与埃弗蒙酷似。他为了露茜和其余她所爱的人们依然代替埃弗蒙登上断头台，并在最后希冀法国的明天会变得美好。
这部小说的主人公是露茜。但我认为露茜的作用不大。她出现的次数不很多，也只说过几句话。主要人物是她所爱的人们。他的父亲马内特医生是法国沙皇统治时期苦难人民的代表；她的丈夫埃弗蒙原来是个贵族，而他从小受母亲的教育，爱护穷人，帮助穷人。从小寄居英国，用自己的努力干下一番事业。他代表了善良的贵族，他的朋友律师卡登为了拯救朋友付出生命的代价，被暴怒的人民送上断头台。他和埃弗蒙都是无辜的，是长期被压迫的巴黎人民害死了他，准确的说是压迫人民的凶恶残暴的贵族们害死了他，他只是个替代品。他正代表了法国黑暗统治下正义无畏的人民。
这部小说用露茜和她所爱的人们揭露了法国的黑暗统治。而作者所在的英国何尝不是这样的呢？在小说结尾，卡登希望法国明天会变得美好。作者只不过是借卡登之口说了自己的心里话。英国的美好明天正是他的希冀！

我看《双城记》，原因是在网上有许多网友推荐，他们都说那是一本非常感人的书，我怀着好奇心就在网上下载来看，看完了一部分感觉还不错，就写下这篇读后感。
网上有人说，《双城记》只是描写了两个男人和一个女人的故事，但是我却觉得，那个人没有了解作者真正想表达的意思。以我看来，德发奇一家和法国贵族的仇恨也好，露西、查尔斯和西德尼的感情也好，都只是为了表现这场战争是谁引起的，为什么事而起的。其实人与人之间都必须保持着宽以待人的态度，即使是天大的事也能大事化小，小事化了。记得发生在我身上的一件事：有一次，我不小心把同学的书弄丢了，原本我还以为她会要我赔，还要怪我呢。没想到当我和她讲的时候，她不仅没骂我，还对我讲说以后不能丢三落四了，应该养成好习惯。恩，也许这就是人与人之间的态度吧！
在这部作品里，我看到了很多不同的人。有正直善良却又惨遭迫害的马奈特医生，忠厚老实的洛瑞，外表冷漠、内心热情，放荡而又无私的西德尼，没有人性的德发奇太太，凶残阴险的埃佛瑞蒙兄弟。。。。。。里面有复杂的仇恨，想复仇却又制造了更多的仇恨，这复杂的一幕幕，生动的展现在我们面前，我们仿佛又回到了那个失去理智的时代。有人抱怨自己生在这个世纪是件坏事，要生在从前，最起码能当个烈士。其实这种想法是错误的，我们生在现代就应该为现代做贡献。而人世间有各种各样的人，他们都有不同的个性，我们不要因为谁的性格怪异而不与他交友，也不要太相信身边的人，也许他就是想害你的其中一个。
文中《双城记》，最让我喜欢的是律师助手西德尼卡尔顿。他第一次出现就与众不同，当法庭上的人若无其事地望着天花板时，而他的一张字条却揭晓了案件背后的阴谋。他一出场就带着一身的忧郁，作为律师的他算得上是才华出众，但却又情愿躲在人家的后面，做别人成功的垫脚石，他仿佛自己亲手筑起了一堵墙，与名利隔绝。他曾说过：“我是个绝望了的苦力，我不关心世上任何人，也没有任何人关心我。”
是啊，我们不应该渴望出名，那样就学不到更多的知识。也许做别人背后的垫脚石，还能个别人那里学到更多的知识，我们能够看到他的长处和短处，学习他的长处，抛掉自己的短处。

When I saw the title at first, I thought it might tell something about the developing process of two cities, which might be no fun. However, after reading it , I found I had been wrong.
It portrays a brutal, bloody and revengeful society as well as love and friendship. It happened before and after the Revolution in France. The ruthless and cruel landowners and noblemen exploited the miserable people who owned nothing, but these poor people worked for others day and night. Noblemen had the power that one word would doubtlessly send others to prison. As time passed by, the noise of the coming-up revolution storm in Paris was growing louder and louder. At last, it was on the fourteenth of July, 1789 that the revolution broke out.
“The Bastille and its officers were in the hands of people, and the people wanted revenge and blood.” The true Freedom of France came. “The Guillotine, the new machine of death, cut off the heads of many, many people—not only the powerful and the cruel, but also the beautiful, the innocent, and the good.” Among the good, there was a man called Darney. Even though his father, wife and friends knew he was innocent, the people thought he was the enemy and would go to the Guillotine.
In spite of a shadow of fear and hate here and there, we can also see the great and kind persons. I think the greatest person is Mr. Manette who had been a prisoner in the Bastille for eighteen years. What he suffered was difficult to imagine, but he was still kind and loved his daughter. He did his best to save his son-in-law, whose father and uncle were the men that had ever sent him to prison. Another great man is the lawyer, Sydney Carton, a friend of Darney. Before Darney went to Guillotine, Mr. Carton changed places with him and he said, “It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever know.” Besides, the story is full of love, including the love between father and daughter, the love between husband and wife, the love among friends and so on. In short, only if you have love in your heart, the life is meaningful. At the same time, the revenge will run away with you, freedom and happiness will be around you.
There is no doubt that Charles Dickens is one of the greatest writers

Each kind of rhetoric technique, like the *ogy, the exaggeration, the contrast, the humorous, and the taunt are handled skillfully and the artistry of the work is also delivered the peak. A tale of two cities has its difference with the general historical novel, its character and the main plot are all fictionalizes. As the second of eight children, Dickens had to go to work at the age of twelve to support his poor family, and he lived a difficult childhood. However, Marquis Evrémonde continued his atrocities. After his crazy carriage crushed over a farmer’s little baby as if nothing happen, he was killed at night. A revolutionary storm was brewing. Mr. and Mrs.Defarge were the revolutionaries in the poor Saint Antoine section of Paris. They wanted to kill all French aristocrats, including Charles Darnay. Mr.Defarge used to be Doctor Manette’s servant, so he was kind to Manettes, while his wife’s heart burned with longing for revenge. At last, Charles Darnay was judged to death, But Sydney Carton, a lawyer who loved Lucie dee*, willing to die instead of Darnay, as they had similar appearance.
From my personal point of view, the person A Tale of Two Cities described astounded me very much. Some of them were cruel, crazy and reasonless, while some of them were kind, moral and had own mind.
Sydney Carton was the person I thought the most. He was a smart attorney, without his help, Mr. Stryver could not solve any cases. But he was lazy, alcoholic, and cared nothing and nobody, he even could not find any interests in his own life, it seems that he lived just for wasting life. But he loved Lucie dee*. Finally, he became a hero, because he sacrificed his life to save Darnay. I didn’t know why the author spent so many words to form such a strange guy at frist, he used his life to love Lucie, after all. But now, I caught it. Perhaps the terrible Carton symbolized the terrible old France, and his change in the end shown that everything could change, including the old France, a new and fine society would replace the violence.
Then, Charles Darnay. He was worthy of esteem or respect. He displayed great virtue in his rejection of his uncle, Marquis Evrémonde. Money and power meant nothing to him, if they came from exploitation and oppression. Even though he had to inherit his uncle’s bequest, he left them to the poor and lived in London throught his own effort. When he realized that he must go back to Paris to help Gabelle, one of his servants, and make right the wrong his uncle had done, he acted without hesitation because he knew that was his duty. He even refused Carton’s help after he was judged to death. I thought, Charles Darnay was a shiny diamond in that cruel and violent society, and he was a hope, the hope of equality and peace.
Third, Mrs.Defarge. How crazy this woman was. Nobody could stop her steps toward revenge, except the death. Although it said that wherever there is oppression, there is resistance, I didn’t agree with Mrs.Defarge totally. Her resistance was inhumane, insensible and endless. For just as the aristocracy’s oppression had made an oppressor Mrs.Defarge herself, so will her oppression, in turn, make oppressors her victims. In the end of the novel, her death by a bullet from her own gun. It shown the author’s belief that inordinate retaliated lust would destroy one own self.
On the whole, A Tale of Two Cities is a successful novel. It shows us oppression and resistance, violence and terror, revolution and vengeance, love and friendship.
I am lucky enough to live in the 21st century, when peace and development are pursued all along. Nowadays, there also are many problems and dissensions among this world, but violence does not the best way problems are solved. Violence just creates more problems, something every sensible person knows. What we need are talks and communication. I can’t describe my feeling at the first sight of him. To tell the truth, he was not eye-catching at that time. When the readers were immersed in the meeting between Lucie and Charles, he only played a little role as a lawyer who had the same face with Charles and extricated him from accusation through this point.
Then they went to drink. Without scruple, Carton expressed his dislike to Charles. Yes, they had the same face. But they were different. When he was young he and his brother stole a countrywoman by force and killed her family .What’s worse , he used his power to imprison Dr Manette , a kind and honest man who knew all the things they had done and wanted to disclose their crimes . In order to hide their crimes. Marquis of Evermonde and his brother threw Doctor Manette into prison for 18 years . During these 18 years,Doctor Manette lost his freedom and suffer a great in spirit .

During this time, Dr manette and Lucie knew Charles Darney and Sydeny Carton, the two young man fell in love with Lucie at the same time . At last, Lucie married Chares Darney .Dr Manette accepted Darney as his son-in-law although he knew that Darney was the nephew of the man who threw him into prison for18 years. This is the love between father and daughter. And Sydeny Carton , the very great man ,loved Lucie dee*. He promised Lucie that he would do everything for her happiness. He did it truely ,he sacrificed himself instead of Darney who looked the same as him. This is love for lovers . This is the most wonderful thing in the world. It also reminds us that no matter how no matter when there is true love existing. At the end , Lucie, Dr Manette and Darney arrived in England safely.
The tale of two cities is different from other historical fictions. Its characters and main plots are fictional under the real background of the revolution of France. The author made the experience of the fictional charactor Dr Manette as the main clue.The plots are complicated, and they are flexuous and dramatic. The structure is complete and rigorous.
Dickens had dear love and hate. He praised those who ought to be praised and attacked those who ought to be attacked. The motivation of the novel maybe just warn the English dominators. But I think we can learn something meaningful from the tale of two cities.

Oliver Twist, one of the most famous works of Charles Dickens’, is a novel reflecting the tragic fact of the life in Britain in 18th century.
The author who himself was born in a poor family wrote this novel in his twenties with a view to reveal the ugly masks of those cruel criminals and to expose the horror and violence hidden underneath the narrow and dirty streets in London.
The hero of this novel was Oliver Twist, an orphan, who was thrown into a world full of poverty and crime. He suffered enormous pain, such as hunger, thirst, beating and abuse. While reading the tragic experiences of the little Oliver, I was shocked by his sufferings. I felt for the poor boy, but at the same time I detested the evil Fagin and the brutal Bill. To my relief, as was written in all the best stories, the goodness eventually conquered devil and Oliver lived a happy life in the end. One of the plots that attracted me most is that after the theft, little Oliver was allowed to recover in the kind care of Mrs. Maylie and Rose and began a new life. He went for walks with them, or Rose read to him, and he worked hard at his lessons. He felt as if he had left behind forever the world of crime and hardship and poverty.
How can such a little boy who had already suffered oppressive affliction remain pure in body and mind? The reason is the nature of goodness. I think it is the most important information implied in the novel by Dickens-he believed that goodness could conquer every difficulty. Although I don’t think goodness is omnipotent, yet I do believe that those who are kind-hearted live more happily than those who are evil-minded.
For me, the nature of goodness is one of the most necessary character for a person. Goodness is to humans what water is to fish. He who is without goodness is an utterly worthless person. On the contrary, as the famous saying goes, ‘The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose’, he who is with goodness undoubtedly is a happy and useful person. People receiving his help are grateful to him and he also gets gratified from what he has done, and thus he can do good to both the people he has helped and himself.
To my disappointment, nowadays some people seem to doubt the existence of the goodness in humanity. They look down on people’s honesty and kindness, thinking it foolish of people to be warm-hearted. As a result, they show no sympathy to those who are in trouble and seldom offer to help others. On the other hand, they attach importance to money and benefit. In their opinion, money is the only real object while emotions and morality are nihility. If they cannot get profit from showing their ‘kindness’, they draw back when others are faced with trouble and even hit a man when he is down. They are one of the sorts that I really detest.
